reinvent the wheel: 노력을 낭비하다

워크샵을 갔다가 주워들은 표현입니다.

 

“We don’t need to reinvent the wheel.”

 

reinvent the wheel이라고 하면 이미 있는 wheel (바퀴)을 다시 발명한다는 거니까, to waste time trying to find a way to do something when someone else has already discovered the best way to do it (이미 누군가가 최선책을 발견한 것에 대해 방법을 찾으려고 애쓰느라 시간을 낭비하다)라는 뜻이더라구요. 그러니까 “우리 굳이 시간, 노력 낭비할 필요 없잖아.” 이런 뜻이었군요...아하!!
