throw someone under the bus - 곤란하게 하다

역시 Diary of a wimpy kid에서 주운 표현이다. 주인공 그렉이 자기는 방귀 뀐 걸 들킨 적이 없다고 말하면서 이런 표현을 사용한다. 

 

I'd even thrwo my own mother under the bus. 

 

throw under the bus라는 이 무시무시한 표현은 to betray or sacrifice a person, particularly for the sake of one’s own advancement, or as a means of safeguarding one’s own interests(자신의 이익을 위한 방편으로 누군가를 배신하거나 희생시키다)라는 뜻이다.

 

그러니 방귀를 자기가 뀌고 나서 엄마한테 뒤집어 씌웠다, 라는 뜻이 되겠다.
