Aussie Slang 모음

호주 억양은 British English에 가까워 처음에 영국 갔을 때 적응 안 되던 것보다는 편한데요...여기에서 주로 쓰는 Slang들이 있더군요...오늘은 이걸 정리해볼까 합니다.

 

Bloody oath! - I certainly agree (완전 동감이야.)
Cranky - in a bad mood (기분이 좋지 않은) (British Eng에는 strange라는 뜻으로도 쓰입니다.)
Crook - to be unwell or not right (옳지 않은) (원래 crooked라고 하면 twisted, bent라는 뜻이 있지요)

Daggy - to be dressed poorly, untidy or dirty (말끔하지 않은), 외양이 말쑥하지 않은 사람은 Dag 랍니다.
Dunny - toliet (화장실)
Fair go - be fair now, something you say when you want someone to act in a reasonable way (공평하게 해야지.)

Going off - it is going well. (잘 돼가고 있어)
Heaps - a large amount (다량의/다수의)
Piker - someone who avoids difficult situations, especially ones involving money (곤란한 상황, 특히 돈과 관련한 상황을 피하려는 사람)
Rock up - arrive at a destination (목적지에 도착하다)
Slab - a 24 pack of beer (24개 들이 맥주) (Slab은 원래 a thick flat piece of a hard material such as stone, 즉 석판 같은 걸 뜻하지요)
Stellar - very good, it describes people or their activities that are of an extremely high standard (아주 훌륭해) (원래 stellar하면 별과 관련이 있으니 긍정적인 의미인가봐요..)

Stoked - very pleased and excited (매우 기쁜)
Sunnies - sunglasses (색안경)
Whinge - to complain, especially about something which does not seem important (별로 중요하지도 않은 것에 대해 불평하다)
Yobbo - a rude, noisy, and sometimes violent young man (무례하고 소란하고 폭력적인 젊은이) (영국 영어에서는 Yob으로 쓴답니다. )

 

마지막 Yobbo를 보니....남편 조셉을 부를 때 여기에서는 ‘여보’라고 불렀다가는 조셉의 이미지가 형편없어질 것 같네요... ^^
