can of worms - 골치 아픈 문제

요즘은 'Eat Pray Love'를 책으로 보고 있다. 

 

거기에 나온 표현 하나... 여행을 가면 겪는 고충을 얘기하는 부분이 나온다. 그 중 'my shaky sense of direction and geography' 또한 나 같은 방향치, 길치가 써먹기 좋은 표현이다. 거기에 이어 소화 불량 이야기도 나온다. 

 

I don't really want to open that can of worms. 

 

여기서 can of wors는 'a verycomplicatedsituationthatcausesa lot of problems when you start todealwith it' (문제가 많은 복잡한 상황)이다. 

 

예문을 만들어 보면...

 

The solution I can think of will just open up a new can of worms. (내가 생각해낼 수 있는 방안들은 결국 또다른 복잡한 문제를 일으킬 것이다.) 

 

요즘 코로나로 이것저것 복잡한데 더 이상의 open a can of worms는 없으면 좋겠다.
