window of opportunity: 절호의 기회

영화 <Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows>를 보신 분들이라면 기차 총격 장면, 사실 총격보다는 여장 장면을 재미있게 보셨을 텐데요.... 왓슨 박사더러 잘 쏴 보라고 하는데, 이런 표현이 나오더라구요 (기억이 부정확하지만...)  It is your window of opportunity.

 

window of opportunity라고 하면 a short period of time that is available for a particular activity (특정 활동이 가능한 짧은 기간, 즉 호기)라는 뜻이랍니다. 그러니까 홈즈가 한 말은 “너한테 절호의 기회니까 잘 해봐.”라고 한 것이네요.
