영드 ‘East Ender’에 나온 표현입니다..

 

Eat your words!

네가 뱉은 말을 다시 먹어…즉, 전에 한 말 취소해!! 입니다.

 

영영 idiom 사전 설명에 의하면..

1) to have to take back one's statements

2) to confess that one's predictions were wrong

 

2)번처럼 잘못을 시인하다, 고백하다, 라는 뜻으로도 쓰이겠네요…

 

제가 종종 분개(?)하고 했던 BBC의 일기예보를 가지고 예문을 만들어 볼까요??

 

The BBC Weather Centre was wrong about the forecast again and had to eat its words.
