V (two fingers) - 욕

 

영드 ‘My Family’에서 주운 표현입니다.

 

Cyclist 가 차를 긁어놓고 가서 화가 잔뜩 난 Ben.

 

“He gave me two fingers.”라며 씩씩대지요..

 

여기서 two fingers라 하면....

 

in Britain, a sign that is considered rude, and which is made by holding your hand up with your palm facing towards you, and your first and second fingers held in a V shape (출처: Cambridge Dictionary)

 

우리가 사진 찍을 때 잘 하곤 하는 V자를 뒤집는 걸 (손바닥이 내 쪽으로) 말합니다. 그게 영국에서는 욕이거든요...그러니까 “그 자식이 나한테 욕까지 했다구.” 라는 뜻이지요.

가끔 그냥 V자는 너무 흔한 것 같아서 뒤집어 사진 찍으시는 분들 있는데....영국에 가면 조심하셔야겠네요.
