get wind of this: 낌새를 알아채다

미드 <Desperate Housewifes>에서 주운 표현입니다. Let’s get her in to get wind of this.

 

get/have wind of  something 이라고 하면 to hear or find out about something secret or private (비밀이나 사적인 것을 듣거나 알아 내다)라는 뜻이랍니다. 왜 우리도 소문을 이야기할 때 ‘소문이 바람을 타고 떠돈다’라는 표현을 쓰잖아요...드라마 속 표현은 “이 일의 알아 내가 위해서 그녀를 잠입시키자.”라는 뜻이었군요.

 

다음 예문과 같이 사용하실 수 있겠네요.

 

The politician will be soon finished as the press gets wind of the scandal.

(언론이 그 스캔들 냄새를 맡았으니 그 정치인은 곧 끝장이야.)

You better hope that your wife did not get wind of it.

(부인이 알아채지 않았기를 바라는 편이 좋을 거야.)
