a mixed bag - 이것저것 섞여 있는 것

오늘 이야기하다가 들은 표현인데요. "This class is a mixed bag." 

mixed bag이라고 하면 a group of things or people that are all very different from each other (서로 다른 것/사람이 뒤섞여 있는 모음)이라는 뜻이랍니다. 그러니까 제가 들은 말은 "이번 수업에는 (학생들이) 참 다양해"라는 뜻이 되겠네요. 참고로 something that includes both good and bad parts (좋은 부분과 나쁜 부분을 다 가지고 있는 것)이라는 뜻도 있답니다. 

예문과 같이 쓰실 수 있답니다. 

The movie was a mixed bag of comedy and tragedy. 

(그 영화는 희극과 비극이 짬뽕되어 있다.)

Winning the lottery can be a mixed bag. 

(복권에 당첨된다는 건 좋은 점도 있고 나쁜 점도 있다.)
